Lower Merion
Aquatic Club (“LMAC”) was founded in 1967 as a community swimming
program. Today LMAC participates in the Suburban Aquatic League (“SAL”),
an independent age-group swimming and diving league in the Pennsylvania
suburbs of Philadelphia. LMAC is in the West Division of SAL’s National
Conference.
LMAC participates
in league-sponsored dual and championship meets that begin in early
November and end with championship meets in early February. SAL and
LMAC are run by parent volunteers according to the SAL Constitution. The
mission of SAL and LMAC is to develop skills in the sports of
competitive swimming and diving; teach good sportsmanship; and provide a
means of healthy self-expression for those participating.
LMAC also sponsors
a developmental program called “Mighty Mites”. Mighty Mites are taught
the 4 competitive strokes and often graduate to the competitive team.
Until this year,
LMAC was sponsored by the Lower Merion School District (“LMSD”). While
the new Lower Merion High School is under construction, LMSD decided not
to sponsor the program. The LMAC Parent’s Association was determined
to continue the program and have taken over responsibility for running
the club.
